  • Brother Jerry L. DeDiemar GS400: passed on January 29, 2008 in Upland, CA at age of 85. He and his family are very active supporters of the Gamma Sigma Alumni Association and his guidance will be missed. Brother DeDiemar was born in 1922 in Des Moines, IA.

  • Brother Gerald B. Whittemore GS1195: We received news from Gerald’s brother, O.J. Whittemore Jr., GS 327, that Gerald passed to Chapter Eternal on December 27, 2007. Gerald Whittemore was the most recently initiated Gamma Sigma member. Gerry pledged Gamma Sigma but World War II took him away from Iowa State and from being formally initiated. Luckily, on November 12, 2002, Gerald was finally initiated at Lambda Phi chapter at Central Arkansas University, 61 years after he pledged at Iowa State.

  • Brother James Vernon Hoekstra GS 710: died from a heart attack March 5, 2005. He was born in Rock Rapids, Iowa on March 2, 1941. After graduating from Iowa State University with a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics, he completed Officer Candidate School at Quantico, VA. and earned his wings of gold with the United States Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, son, Tim and daughter, Amy. Semper Fi.

  • Brother Steven M. Dunstan GS 1118: died in his sleep on October 15, 2005. Steve was 34 years old. Steve grew up in Richfield, MN, and graduated from high school in 1989. He was initiated into the brotherhood of Sigma Nu on February 3, 1990. He played ice hockey for the Cyclones during his years at Iowa State. He graduated from Iowa State in 1993 with a degree in chemical engineering. He received his master's degree in bio-medical engineering from the University of Memphis in 1998. He was employed by ev3 as a bio-medical engineer. He is survived by wife, Wendy Flanagan and son, Max. A 529 college saving account has been set up for Max.   • Brother Denis G. Tri, GS 1080: passed on January 29, 2005. Denis, age37 and a Lt. Commander in the Navy, and his fiance Tricia K.Goken, 35, were killed in an automobile accident. Denis, who served his country in the Navy for years as a test pilot and later as a test pilot instructor, was the aide to Admiral Walter "Wally" Massenburg at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.

  • Brother William H. Eichling GS 374: was killed in an accident on Jan. 11, 2002.   While walking his dog he was hit by a truck.  Bill was a legacy having been preceded in the Chapter by his father Henry Eichling GS 61 and uncle Paul Eichling GS 66.
