End of school year community service – May 2026

The Gamma Sigma Colony at Iowa State University combined philanthropy with creativity on May 2 during its spring Taco-Bout Awareness event, raising awareness and support for those affected by breast cancer. Benefiting Can Do Cancer, a nonprofit that serves breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in Des Moines, Ames, and surrounding communities, the event brought together 70–80 students for an afternoon of fellowship and advocacy. Organized by Community Service and Philanthropy Chairman Alexander Chapman, the event was inspired by his family’s personal experience with breast cancer and reflected a cause that resonated with many brothers whose loved ones have also been impacted by the disease. Attendees enjoyed Taco John’s, wrote Letters of Love to cancer patients, contributed to a “Who Do You Fight For?” tribute wall, and even took part in the event’s signature activity—donating to dump cheese on willing brothers. Together, the colony raised $573 for Can Do Cancer while helping shine a light on the importance of supporting breast cancer patients, survivors, and their families.

Community Service – Spring 2026

Early this spring, members of the Gamma Sigma Colony at Iowa State University came together in service to support U.S. troops deployed overseas. Partnering with the university’s Military-Affiliated Student Center, the men assembled 30 care packages filled with supplies and messages of encouragement for service members stationed abroad.

Recolonization Update – Spring 2025

Spring Rush added another group of 14 candidates raising the total to 31! The candidates are continuing to draw in additional members with a goal of 35 for this calendar school year. To the right is a group picture of the new candidates at their recent initiation ceremony.

In the past weeks, the men of Sigma Nu have had numerous spring rush events. The most notable being the recruitment events at Cybowl and Perfect Games. We had a significant number of brothers and potential recruits attending each event.

Chapter Activities Spring 2025

by Broden Johns, Alumni Contact

With Greek week quickly approaching, we are regularly participating in the lip sync battle. We are also having regular tryouts for the sports tournaments with our partners Alpha Chi Omega and Triangle.

Our main philanthropical event was held in late March. We worked with the local Cub Scout troop to make blankets and care packages for the homeless.

We also organized a fundraising event for the Polar Plunge supporting the Iowa Special Olympics.
